Let's be upfront: The Foodie Club doesn't sit on the canyon rim, and we don't have a canyon view. We're one mile before the South Rim entrance in Tusayan, AZ. What we do have is timing — we're the last real meal before you head to the rim for sunset, and the first one when you drive back after.
Where to Actually Watch the Sunset at Grand Canyon South Rim
Hopi Point
The most popular sunset spot on the South Rim, along Hermit Road. Wide, unobstructed views west down the canyon — expect crowds in summer, arrive at least 30–45 minutes early for a good spot.
Mohave Point
A little further down Hermit Road than Hopi Point, often less crowded with a similarly wide view. A solid second choice if Hopi Point is packed.
Yavapai Point
Right by the Visitor Center — the easiest to reach, with a shorter walk from parking. Not as dramatic as Hopi or Mohave, but a good option if you're short on time or don't want to drive Hermit Road at dusk.
Why Monsoon Season Makes It Better
Arizona's monsoon season runs roughly July through September, and it changes the sunset completely. Storm cells build over the canyon most summer afternoons, and when the sun drops behind the clouds and rain columns instead of a clear sky, the color show is longer and more dramatic than on a clean summer evening. It's also less predictable — check the forecast before you commit to a viewpoint, since storms can also cut a sunset short.
The Timing That Actually Works
In summer, sunset at the South Rim runs roughly 7:30–8:00 PM. Here's how that lines up with a stop at The Foodie Club:
- Before (3–6 PM): Our first daily Happy Hour — drinks and food before you drive in for sunset, so you're not doing it on an empty stomach.
- After (9–10:30 PM): Our second Happy Hour session starts right as most people are driving back from the rim after sunset — a natural stop for dinner or a nightcap.
We're open 6:30 AM–10:30 PM in summer, so either side of sunset, we're here.
What to Order
Order the Tequila Sunrise ($13.99, tequila, orange juice, grenadine) before you head out — it's the obvious pairing, and it's $9.99 during Happy Hour. Or grab the Carajillo after you get back, when you need something cold and a little caffeinated more than something photogenic.
